Paper People

Single, gay, autistic, OCD, depressed, suicidal, and all the others. We put these on ourselves and on each other, but we are not confined to those labels. Those things do not define us.

Humans are not made of paper, to have labels written on them.

And just because that is the term used, does not mean you have to follow all the ‘requirements’ of it. You can be depressed, and never cut yourself. You can be OCD, and not have the habit of washing your hands ritually. These are common symptoms, but not definite.

That’s the true beauty of being human. No one label is gonna capture the masterpiece of your life. Not even all the words in the world can express the miracle and uniqueness of a single person.

I think too often, we try to conform to the labels. The stress of trying to fit in, is so immense. Even for a rebel. Rebel in itself, is a label, and comes with expectations.

Outcast. Another label of those who claim to not fit in, but in the process of doing so, they have entered a group of so-called people that don’t fit in. And that title comes with responsibilities, for others in that group may call you a fake for not following all the ‘requirements’.

But hear me out. Because no one truly fits in. We all have flaws, we all have secrets, we all have personality. No one is gonna fit in completely, so stop lying to yourself.

I have PTSD. But PTSD does not have me. I am not a slave to this label.

I also have Depression, Anxiety, Obsessive Compulsive Disorder, and Sociopathic traits. But these are simply names, a few cards that float above my head where people can read them. But this is not all I am. I am more than my labels.

And so are you.
